Congratulations to our school finalists for this year's Ezra Jack Keat's Bookmaking competition: Tadious, Brittany, and Kevin! These talented writers and illustrators have been working hard for months to complete their book projects. Tadious's book, Buck's Surprise, tells the story of Buck and Flurry, who are an unusual pair of best friends. Kevin and Brittany collaborated to write and illustrate an interactive non-fiction book about paleontology called Digging for Prehistoric creatures. They all did a fantastic job and we are so proud! See more pages from their books below.

Students have been learning about clay in art. They started the unit by exploring texture and how to manipulate the clay's surface with various tools and rollers. Students then used tempera and acrylic paint to add color to their work. Everyone did such an amazing job!

Students in several classes are still continuing to have fun in their studio residency with Ms. Hiromi from Marquis Studio. During each session, our young artists spend some time working in their sketchbooks and learning new ideas that they will use later when making their masks. Before vacation, students were introduced to clay. They had so much fun using different tools and objects to create beautiful clay sculptures. This week, some classes started painting their projects, while other students prepared for their paper mache project by blowing up balloons and ripping paper. We had lots of fun with Ms. Hiromi, and can't wait to see what's next!
